1. HV-MTL COLLECTION
BIO

Concept art and separate traits development to create a collection of 5,000+ Bio Mechs, one of the 8 Mech Types of the HV-MTL collection developed by a team of 15 artists at Yuga Labs

The HV-MTL (Heavy Metal) collection is made up of 30,000 Mechs derived from 8 different Power Source types. Beginning March 15, 2023, eligible Sewer Passes can be burned to summon a Power Source that will reveal an Evo 1 Mech. Evo 1 holders can participate in future minigame sets with their Evo 1s to unlock additional HV-MTL evolution stages.

The illustrations and concepts were made in Adobe Photoshop in collaboration with the artist and friend Santiago Suárez under the art direction of Jessie Bustin.

2. LEGENDS OF THE MARA
GAME COVER

Legends of the Mara is an interoperable season-based game by Yuga Labs, operating on the blockchains. The game expands the world of Otherside, the origin of the Koda, the unearthed artifacts, and the dangers lurking beneath. For its launch, we tapped into the unique web3 interoperable storytelling opportunities to build up excitement and deliver the narrative through partners and channels.

The illustration and game cover design were made in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator under the art direction of Long Vu.

3. KODAMARAS COLLECTION

Legends of the Mara is a web3 strategy game based in the world of Otherside with the Koda as the protagonists. It is also the first truly interoperable game from Yuga Labs. As the creative director of the game, I led a cross-functional team of art, concept, narrative, UI, and external vendors to bring the world of Otherside to life.

The illustration and game cover design was made in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator under the art direction of Long Vu.

Players start out with one or multiple generic Mara, only by acquiring and consuming a Catalyst, the Mara can evolve into Kodamara — their superior forms. The Kodamara are part of a NFT collection...meaning each and everyone of the Kodamara is unique compared to one another.

Furthermore, the Kodamara can be customized based on the resources spent during catalysis. In order to achieve such requirements, we developed a mix and match system that ensures no 2 combinations are the same even if players choose the same set of materials in the process. Below are small sample out of 5000 possible combinations.

Sediment fragments add unique visual traits to Kodamara.
The players have 2 slots available to add sediment and the total amount added determines the changes to your Kodamara.

"This collection is ambitious in terms of scope as it offers greater utilities and personalization than most digital collectibles. The characters are interoperable game pieces that can be played in extended Yugaverse games, while the components and catalysts to upgrade them can be earned (or acquired) through in-game activities, marketplace, and other channels. Unlike most NFT collections where the final art are produced and curated prior to launch, here owners can choose which aesthetics to go for and alter the final results with components. Each Kodamara combination is unique, while the owners directly influence the rarity of the collection as a whole.

This project was tremendously challenging but deeply satisfying at the same time. I got to exercise all my creative muscles with a good measure of math and statistics thrown in. I also got to work with some of the coolest artists, creatives, and non-creatives alike throughout this year long project. We set out to raise the bar on tech and art with this collection and the larger project, and the overwhelmingly positive response from the community said it all".
